My life in the last month

1 month ago today March 27th, 2010 I left Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Clothing items packed in 2 totes in the back of a mini-van with Kimberly and her boys we left headed for our 22 hour drive to Utah. They were going there for vacation, but I had decided to move there to pursue a job that would not only benefit me with a paycheck but also with special training. I didn't know what to expect and was nervous but I knew that god and heavenly father would direct me to make the right decision and that they would not lead me astray. They knew the plan that they had put in front of me so that I could get the opportunity to make myself better so i could positively serve other people, and that moving away and starting over would help to make me a stronger and more confident person.
During the week when Kimberly and her kids were here we had so much fun, I was excited about living in Utah but wondered what it would be like when Kimberly left, I wouldn't be able to see her everyday or communicate with her, but I know how much she loves me and cares about me and how much she wants to see me succeed and to find something that makes me successful and also happy. I respect her with everything that I have, I am so thankful for the opportunity that she put in front of me for the opportunity to be able to move and for the blessings that she has given to me. After Kimberly left I was sad but I knew that things would get better and that I needed to have a positive attitude or that I wouldn't be that successful. I heard when I went to meet with someone at the DI (Desert Industries) that there was a Career Workshop Class and decided to take that to get a head start so that when I got working at the DI I wouldn't have to worry about taking it. After taking the class and learning different things about resumes, interviews and other things I decided to write a thank you letter to the person that I had met with at the Di. Right before I had sent it his manager had come up to him and let him know that he was interested in hiring someone. He checked his e-mail received my email and decided to hire me. He was very grateful to me for the thank you letter and said that I was only 1 of 2 in the 16 years that he's worked there for someone to send him a thank you letter.
I have now been working at the DI for 3 weeks tomorrow. Working there has taught me not only how to reliable, dependable, but also how to work well with others. It's wonderful getting some of the comments that I get from my co-workers that I'm a very hard worker and that I'm a key player in order for our area to be successful.

DI- Week 1

DI- Week 1

It has been one week today that I started working at the DI, it has kept me busy to say the least. I was hired as a pricer in production this means that I price little items, like dishes, pictures frames, children's games and toys, belts, dinnerware and a bunch of other stuff. I have now in less then a week been trained in all of the sections in my area. There is sorting, pricing, and tagging. Sorting is where we take things that people have donated and put them into a tote. They then go down on an assembly line thing to the pricer, who decides how much each individual item will cost. The pricer takes the item from one tote and puts them in the corresponding tote that they have priced it at. Then we push it through another huge assembly line thing and on the other side of that the tagger puts a sticker on it of the corresponding price that the pricer has chosen. The tagger then puts 100 or 200 hundred items on a cart, and then gives it to the workers on the floor who put the items away. I like working at the DI, it has in the last week given me some good items how I can better other peoples lives in order to help them, and also tips like how to do a resume, cover letter and other such things like that. I work 5 days a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and am currently working 40 hours a week, 8 hours a day. My co-workers are also really cool especially Markki! :D PAYDAY Friday!!!!

Utah fun times!!!

UTAH

Me and Kevin in the horse drawn cart, I was terrified because when we first took of Kevin went so fast that we almost tipped backward but after awhile I got used to it.

It had been a long time since I had been on a horse, so I was kind of scared. But after a bit, I got back in my groove and knew what I was doing. The whole time that I was on the horse I thought of my friend Carly, who was killed last year in a car accident. I knew that she was watching down on me and knowing that I was thinking about her, and how wonderful of a friend she was to so many different people. I love you Carly...

"One of the coolest 4 year olds I know" Spencer is one of the coolest 4 year olds I know, He is my bud!!! :D We've done a lot of fun things together. I love Spencer as if he was my brother.

FAV People

My FAVORITE PEOPLE!!! :D

Kimberly is like my sister and mom all in one. She's helped me with so many things and has became such a big and important part of my life. She helped me discover things about myself that I would have never found out if it wasn't for her. She's been a life savor. Kimberly, I am so thankful for the close relationship that I have been able to develop not only with you but also with the rest of your family. You all have become such a big and important part of my family and I don't know where I would be without all of the love, strength and hope that you've all brought into my life. I love you all and I cant wait till I get to see you again at the end of the month.

Lisa-
Lisa is my big sister. I have known her since I was like ten years old. She's been there for me and seen me grow up. She's been there for me through the good times the bad times, and just the rough times that I have had growing up. We all know that each teenager goes through that.

Dominick James-
My nephew Dominick is one of the cutest little kids, I've ever seen. It has been wonderful seeing him grow from the time he was in the ICU after he was born till today.. He is a very strong and happy boy, and I love him..

March 27th, 2010- March 28th, 2010

The Hatches (-Jake) decided that they were going to go to Utah for a week during there spring break to see there grandparents, and a wonderful opportunity for me to move there also came about. Living in Wisconsin there is really no place for anyone to get a job so I struggled with being unemployed for quite sometime. Kimberly's parents had given me a wonderful opportunity to come and live with them, and to be able to learn some skills that I had never learned at home. I took the opportunity as a new stepping stone for the direction in which I wanted my life to go, and knew that I would be blessed for taking this opportunity. I tend to have a fear of the unknown, but Utah has been wonderful so far. I've made new friends here, and will be singing for Stake Conference at the Conference Center next month, which is going to be so exciting. Not many people have the opportunity to do that, but I do!! Back to the road trip now though, lol, so after mapqusting, packing and saying my goodbyes we set out early on Saturday March 27th, 2010 for our 22 hour car ride. I thought that the ride would be hard, because I've only been in a car for a 6 hour car ride when I went to California last August but, I actually really enjoyed being in the car and spending time with Kimberly, Kevin, Josh, Caleb and Spencer. They have become really close and important people in my life. I consider them more like part of my church family than I would just a neighbor or friend. I cant wait to see who they are when they become adults- I know that is kinda far away still, but I know that they are going to be wonderful people. In order to get to Utah we had to go through 5 states, well some of Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and then had to travel through some of Utah as well. The first night we made it to North Platte, Nebraska. We got a hotel (which had wi-fi) :) and we went to Penny's Diner for dinner, its a 50's place. We also went there for breakfast the next morning because it was included in the cost of the hotel room. The next morning after breakfast we left super early, we wanted to make it to Utah on the Sunday instead of taking till the Monday to get there.

April Fools Day 04/01/2010

We had so much fun at the train museum, and we even
made a penny to remember our fun time.

Spencer is one of my favorite kids.
He is more like a little brother to me.

This April Fools was so far my all time favorite. Let's just say that although the Hatch Boys tried to fool me, it didn't work. On April Fools Day we went to the Train Museum. It was really cool to see all of the trains, and be able to see an interesting museum with the Hatch Boys and Kimberly before they left to go back home to Wisconsin. After the train museum went to Wendy's to have lunch. It was a fun day. There is one thing that I do miss about Wisconsin, it's that they don't have Culvers. I thought that every state had to have Culvers but after asking numerous people out here if they knew the closest location to a Culvers and them replying I don't know what that is, its obvious that they do not have a Culvers in the state of Utah, at least not in the area where I am living.

Layton, Utah, United States
My name is Shannon. I am currently 19 years old. I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, and moved to Layton, Utah a little over a month ago. I really like it here and have been able to meet and make friends with some really nice people. I never thought a month ago when I was given the opportunity to move that it would be something i'd love but Utah has been shown that it is amazing and that I could see myself living here the rest of my life. I will be attending Brigham Young University in Idaho this January and studying family and consumer sciences. I plan on graduating in 2015. I am a very unique person in the fact that I learned about the gospel of Jesus Christ from the missionaries and the neighbor I lived with next door to me in Wisconsin. I learned about the blessings of the sacred gospel and how it can bless lives. I got baptized and found that heavenly father after my baptism blessed me with numerous things including, moving to Utah, a job at the Deseret Industries and the fact that I was accepted into Brigham Young University.
